This sector has been at the heart of our economy since the 19th century, predominantly in knitwear and hosiery. Today, it remains a huge part of our economic make up and is actually the second largest employment area for textiles manufacture in the UK with over 9,500 people working in the industry.

There are 1,480 textile-related businesses in Leicestershire, the majority of which are SMEs. The sector contributes over half a billion pounds to the local economy every year.

Textiles in Leicestershire remains highly successful because our businesses have adapted and are driving forward new innovations and hi-tech manufacturing techniques. They offer total supply chain solutions, innovative design and speed to market.

Add this to our excellent central location, diverse manufacturing base and constant supply of graduates through local universities, De Montfort and Loughborough which offer sought after courses on design and fashion, and it is clear why our Textiles industry is not just surviving, but is thriving.
